How would you describe the AVHS campus? If you this question to students here on campus they would respond with words such as “Dirty”, “ full of trash”, “not clean”, or  “nasty”.

Over the years more and more kids just don’t care about keeping our campus clean. We have roughly about 15 trash cans spread around our campus and it ends up on the floor rather than where it is supposed to be, in the trash can!

During lunch is when the campus gets the dirtiest. When students get their lunches some drop things and don’t pick them up, and others just purposely throw their stuff on the floor and walk away.

According to Mr. McCrumb, a history teacher at AVHS, comments that “So far this year the campus is clean compared to previous years. This campus is beautiful when it’s clean, however students purposely throw their trash on the ground right in front of a trash can.”

Overall even though our campus is much cleaner now compared to other years, littering is still a big issue here at AVHS.

Mrs. Shanklin, a science teacher here at AVHS also remarks that, “We need to raise awareness in classes and have people clean up after themselves. Having kids clean up after others is not a solution, if you don’t have people take responsibility for their own actions then they will continue to do it, if they don’t get in trouble. We need to get students to be mindful and get them to care about the trash on our campus.”

United staff and students can work together to help eliminate a huge problem and make our campus beautiful. Throw away your trash inside the trash cans and help make a beautiful change in our campus.
